Medalist Golf Club, is a Private, 18 hole golf course located in Hobe Sound, Florida.
The course opened for play in 1995. Designed by Greg Norman and Pete Dye, Medalist Golf Club measures 7,168 yards from the longest tees and has a slope rating of 147 and a 75.4 USGA rating. The course features 3 sets of tees for different skill levels. The greens are bermuda grass.
The somewhat fast greens are small and undulating, and marshes come into play on several holes. Hugh waste bunkers double as cart paths. In March of 1995 this club hosted Shell's Wonderful World of Golf. "Golf Digest" rated the Medalist Golf Club as the 7th "Best New Private Course" in America for 1995. "GOLF Magazine" named it 80th best out of the "Top 100 Courses in the U.S." for 1995.
Greg Norman and Pete Dye, the (1995) designers of the Medalist Golf Club Golf Course sent a formal letter to the course asking that their names be removed as architects and in any association with the course. The relationship soured when the club, without consultation with Norman or Dye hired former Dye protege/co-designer Bobby weed to produce a master plan for the golf course, presumably for the purpose of renovating the course. Norman and Dye had a long and on-going history with the club and had extended design services free of charge to The Medalist Club since it's opening. Norman was more than a bit upset with the way the course handled their change in direction. Greg asked that his shark and other memorabilia be returned.
